We had a pretty low-key Halloween here in Seattle. Friday we went out and saw a The Heavy play at the Croc which was tons of fun, so last night we stayed in and handed out candy to the trick-or-treaters.
Earlier in the day, Grace sported her new apron courtesy of mumsy and carved a pumpkin and went on a baking spree. Together we made Halloween Funfetti cupcakes, then she went on to make carrot cupcakes, pumpkin cranberry bread, and bran bread. I told her she better make something savory, or else she and Elijah would have to consume all the sweets (didn't seem to be a problem); so she made some yummy cheesy onion bread.
Once the carb-coma passes, we'll hopefully have more to report!

Pumpkin Cut-Out Cookies
We've been looking for pumpkin recipes to try that aren't the standard pie/bread/muffin variety. Grace found this great alternative to sugar cookies on allrecipes.com. We tweaked it to our tastes and used her new Ikea animal cookie cutters! You'll want your dough a bit thicker than you'd roll out standard sugar cookies.
Personally I think the cookies are good enough on their own, but grace suggested a cream cheese/allspice frosting which would probably taste great. In retrospect we could have sprinkled some raw sugar on before baking, but we'll have to try that next time...
